As we get older, lines and wrinkles start to develop across our face and body leading to a less youthful appearance. While they may not bother some people, others seek treatment to minimise them. At SAYA Aesthetics, we offer consultations to find the best solution for you. Wrinkles can be treated in a number of different ways – from relaxing the muscles via injections, to dermal fillers, skinboosters and microneedling.
Lines and wrinkles form on the face as a result of repeated muscle contractions through talking, smiling, laughing and frowning. Smoking and excessive sun exposure can also accelerate and worsen their appearance.
Anti-wrinkle injections are often referred to by brand name Botox and contains a protein called botulinum toxin. When injected, botulinum toxin temporarily relaxes muscles – reducing their ability to contract and so, as a result, improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
It can be used to treat forehead lines and crow’s feet, as well as other areas of concern, which can be discussed in your consultation with Dr Salma.
Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine – it will only be prescribed and administered after a thorough consultation with Dr Salma, who will also outline other treatment options for your lines and wrinkles.
Other brands of botulinum toxin are available. In the UK, the most common are Bocouture and Azzalure.
Anti-wrinkle treatments are only undertaken after a detailed consultation. After treatment, you can expect to see smoother, less wrinkled skin. The effects of anti-wrinkle treatment generally take up to 14 days to be fully effective.
Results typically last three to four months, though repeated treatments can have a longer-lasting impact.
N.B. Individual results vary and are dependent on age and lifestyle factors.
As with all injectable treatments there are side effects and risks. It is normal for your skin to be slightly red and swollen immediately after any injectable treatment and mild bruising can also occur. These usually subside within 24-48 hours.
More serious, but rare, complications include facial weakness and droopy eyelids. As a medical doctor, Dr Salma has the training and experience to significantly reduce these risks and has performed thousands of these treatments to date.
We do not offer anti-wrinkle treatment to anyone under 18 years old, with a known allergy to the ingredients in the product, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
To ensure you get the best results, we will explain what to expect after treatment and email you aftercare instructions. These include staying upright for four hours, avoiding exercise, alcohol and applying pressure to the injected area for 24 hours, and no facials, massage or device-led treatments for one week following treatment. All patients are provided with complimentary follow-up at 2-3 weeks post treatment to assess results.
