FACIAL AESTHETICS: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE

In an age where self-care and confidence are prioritised, facial aesthetic treatments have gained immense popularity. Whether you’re looking to enhance your natural beauty or address specific concerns, such as wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, pigmentation … the world of facial aesthetics offers a range of solutions. If you’re new to these treatments, this beginner’s guide will help you get started.

What is facial aesthetics?

Facial aesthetics is the name given to treatments that can enhance and improve the appearance of the face. These treatments can help to achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated, and harmonious look by improving the effects of ageing. These are some of the most common treatments:

• Wrinkle treatments: wrinkles can be treated in a number of ways – from relaxing the muscles via injections, to dermal fillers, skin boosters and microneedling.
• Dermal fillers: this involves injecting a gel-like substance into the skin to add volume, smooth wrinkles and enhance facial contours. Common areas for treatment include lips, cheeks and undereye area (tear trough treatment).
• Chemical peels: a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate the top layer of skin, revealing fresher, smoother complexion. Chemical peels are often used to improve dull skin, acne scarring and pigmentation.
• Microneedling: this creates temporary microchannels in the skin. As this heals, it stimulates the body’s natural wound healing process resulting in new collagen and elastin formation.
• Laser skin resurfacing: laser treatments can target specific skin concerns like sun damage, scars and age spots. They work by removing damaged skin layers and stimulating collagen production.

What causes signs of ageing on the face?

As we get older our skin produces less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid which causes it to lose its bounce and elasticity, leaving it looking less radiant and results in the formation of lines and wrinkles. This natural process of ageing can be worsened by other factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and stress amongst other things.

Who can perform facial aesthetic treatments?

Selecting a qualified and experienced provider is crucial for a safe and successful facial aesthetic treatment. We would always recommend seeking treatment with a medically qualified provider with extensive knowledge and training.

At SAYA Aesthetics, all injectable treatments are performed by Dr Salma, who has years of training, experience and a gentle approach when performing these treatments.

What’s the treatment process?

The first step is an initial consultation to discuss your skin concerns and expectations, as well as discussing your general health and examining your face. You will be recommended a bespoke treatment plan including skincare advice and advised about benefits and potential risks of treatments. On the day of the treatment, you will need to follow any pre-treatment advice. Most treatments are relatively quick and minimally invasive. The recovery process depends on the treatment. You may experience some redness, swelling, bruising or mild discomfort which usually resolves within a few days. Post-treatment aftercare advice should be followed. The results may vary depending on the treatment, but you can typically expect to see improvements within a few days to a few weeks. The duration of results varies and some treatments require maintenance sessions.

Facial aesthetic treatments can provide a safe and effective way to enhance your natural beauty and boost your self-confidence. However, as a beginner, it’s essential to do your research, choose a reputable provider, and understand the treatment process. You should always prioritise your safety and well-being when considering facial aesthetic treatments. However, with the right guidance and expectations, you can embark on your journey to a more radiant and youthful appearance.
